Types of theoretical exams
Classical theory exam
– You take the exam in a class
– You can take the exam in English and in Dutch.
– The theory exam takes about 45 minutes.
– You can take the theory exam from the age of 16.
During your theory exam you will be tested on:
– Hazard recognition.
– Traffic rules.
– Traffic insight.
Individual theory exam
– This is for people who cannot perform well when taking exams in a group.
– The exam is doable in all languages, so it is also suitable for people who have difficulty with Dutch or English.
– It is important that you arrange for an official interpreter yourself. Do this at least 2 weeks before your theory exam
– Costs are higher than the classical theory exam
– You can take this exam from the age of 16.
Requesting a theory exam
You can easily request a theory exam online via this site. This only applies to the classical theory exam. Your driving school can also request this for you. You can apply for the individual theory exam through your driving school.
Please note that you need a personal DigiDto reserve a theory exam in your name. Applying for a DigiD is easy and free, but can take up to five days. Keep that in mind.
How to apply for your theory exam online
– Go to My CBR and log in with DigiD.
– Choose ‘Book theory exam’.
– Follow the instructions on the screen.
– You decide for which vehicle you want to take the exam, in which language, where and when.
– As soon as you have filled in all the details, you pay the exam fee directly online via iDEAL.
– You will then receive confirmation of your application by e-mail.
– Tip: immediately note your exam date in your diary and set a reminder in your phone. That way you won’t forget your theory exam.
– Tip: you can always see on My CBR which reservation you have made.
Please note!
– In order to take the theory exam, you need a valid identity document. Check whether you have one beforeyou apply for your theory exam. You must also be registered in the municipal administration.
– Do you want to change your exam date? You can arrange this yourself online via My CBR. You’ll need a DigiD to do this. Is the exam date already within a week? Then you can still change the date, but only if there is still room at an earlier moment. Have you applied for your exam through your driving school and want to change the date? Please contact your driving school.
